Prepare to embark on a thrilling adventure in 2025 as we journey through a coastal paradise celebrated for its dramatic and unique shoreline. Get ready to revitalise your spirit as you traverse the rugged beauty of the Fleurieu region, creating lasting memories and forging connections with nature and fellow trekkers.
35KM
The 35km adventure begins at Parsons Beach with a single-file rocky trail, so watch your step on those loose pebbles and take it slow. Soon, you'll descend onto the soft sands of Waitpinga Beach, covering approximately 1.5km, which might include a potential wet shoe zone. You can choose to protect your shoes with plastic bags, take them off for a brief sandy stroll, or dance your way through – the choice is yours!
The next 15km will lead you through narrow, undulating bush trails along the iconic Heysen Trail, including the rugged cliffs and rolling hills of Newland Head Conservation Park, and along the coastline through to Kings Beach.
Keep in mind that access points for support crews are limited in the first third of the route, with support crew locations at Waitpinga Campground (3km mark), the carpark at the end of Kings Beach (14.5km mark), and Rosetta Head carpark (16.5km mark). We also have you covered with a Luv Stop at the 10km mark, where support crews aren’t able to access, to refresh and reset.
20KM (35KM trekkers keep reading…)
The 20km event starts here! From Kings Beach Trail Head, the 35km and 20km trekkers will wind their way along the narrow, undulating bush trail, hugging the coastline for 2km before reaching The Bluff and Rosetta Head. This spectacular headland offers panoramic views across to Kangaroo Island around to Encounter Bay and the journey ahead.
Continue along the waters edge for 6km, reaching historic Victor Harbor. Cross the narrow causeway to Granite Island, a unique ecological attraction famous for its granite formations and follow the Kaiki Trail boardwalk and unique sculpture trail around this stunning island. Marvel at the crashing waves, spot native flora and fauna, and keep your eye out for Southern Right Whales as they make their annual migration along the Peninsula.
Continue your journey along the shoreline, including a short stretch of sand on Boomer Beach, reaching Chiton Rocks Luv Stop for a rest and refresh before the final push. Make your way across the headland enjoying picturesque views from Freemans Lookout and around Horseshoe Bay, reaching the charming coastal village of Port Elliot and across the finish line. You did it!
But what about the sand, how much sand?!
35km event – approx. 2.5km of sand walking
20km event – approx. 800m of sand walking.
Please be aware that there are very few water and toilet stops along this entire section of the route. It's crucial to refill your water bladder EVERY TIME you encounter a water refill station (at Luv Stops), even if you believe you have enough left. During training, these water points won't be available, so make sure to carry extra water with you while training on the route.
Please keep in mind that all Coastrek routes are subject to change, but we strive to stick to the advised route as closely as possible. Nature sometimes presents circumstances beyond our control, such as tides or fallen trees, which may require slight route alterations. Rest assured that any adjustments will be clearly marked and communicated on the event day.
