Get ready for an extraordinary adventure in 2025 as we take you through the breathtaking landscapes of the Mornington Peninsula. This region is renowned for its peaceful bays, wild ocean coastlines, and tranquil bush, and our Coastrek routes offer you the chance to experience it like never before.
50km Route
Starting at the picturesque Cape Schanck lighthouse, the 50km route takes you along narrow undulating trails along the coastline. Don't forget to look left occasionally over Bass Strait and enjoy the coastal views from vantage points at Diamond Bay, and St Paul's Lookout. We highly recommend ankle gaiters and sand-resistant shoes to ensure comfort and keep sand and debris out.
30km Route
The 30km journey begins at Point Nepean, offering serene views of the calm waters of Port Phillip on the bay side of the peninsula. You will move in a clockwise loop of the peninsula and experience the infamous Bay Trail through to Sorrento. You will then cross over to the back side of the peninsula via the delightful Tuckey Trail to Coppins Track. Continue along Coppins Track to Sorrento SLSC before experiencing the wild waves of Portsea back beach for 1.5km of slopey, slinky, soft sand to Portsea Surf club. Join the Farnsworth Track to London Bridge lookout before re-entering Point Nepean National Park at Wilson Folly.
20km Route
Starting at Sorrento Front Beach, the 20km route follows the path of the 50km and some of 30km trekkers. Enter Point Nepean National Park via Butlers track and out to the stunning Fort Nepean on the very tip of the Mornington Peninsula. Enjoy breathtaking views across to Queenscliff and out to the Port Phillip Bay Heads, now that is a picture-perfect spot! On your way back, link up with Coles Track all the way to the finish. You did it!
Important Notes:
- Butlers Track will be specially opened for Coastrek Event Day only, so it's unavailable for training. Please follow the pink markers and refer to your map on the event day.
- Water and toilet stops are limited along the entire route, so take advantage of opportunities when available. Refill your water bladder EVERY TIME you see a water refill station at the Luv Stops.
- Head torches are essential for all trekkers, especially those finishing after sunset. Don't rely solely on your phone torch.
- Support crews should plan ahead, as there are limited access points on the route. The Luv Stops are ideal meeting points, and careful planning is crucial for the last 10km through Point Nepean National Park.
- The Luv Stop at Cheviot Hill is inaccessible for Support Crews. Support crews are unable to meet their trekkers beyond Gunners Barracks. Please keep this in mind when planning your meetups.
But what about the sand, how much sand?!
50km event – approx. 7.5km of sand walking
30km event – approx. 4km of sand walking
20km event – approx. 800m of sand walking.
Please keep in mind that all Coastrek routes are subject to change, but we strive to stick to the advised route as closely as possible. Nature sometimes presents circumstances beyond our control, such as tides or fallen trees, which may require slight route alterations. Rest assured that any adjustments will be clearly marked and communicated on the event day.
